I’m absolutely giddy at being the first to submit this one. It’s off a Nomos CD, “Set You Free”; I don’t know the author.
Note the similarity of the last phrase to the last phrase of Athol Highlanders. Going into the last turn, Niall and company replace the last two bars with
eee eee | eee eee
…which must drive ’em wild at the live shows. Fantastic jig, I think. Enjoy!
Blues-man?
Rory Gallagher was a famous Irish blues rock guitarplayer, who died much too young; could it be him who wrote or played this one?
The author of the tune is Scots piper Gordon Duncan.
A fine rendition
Also recorded by “Kick” on “Folkal Point: Edinburgh”
I have this as a traditional arrangement by Gordon Duncan. The setting I have is as follows:
Not a good version of the tune here. bhampiper has posted the right version above.
Re: Rory Gallagher’s jig.
Well done that man. I only discovered this recently. Great that a jig was composed in honour of Rory. I will learn to play it on harmonica. Saw Rory perform many times.
His playing and performance was one with his music. It sent shivers up the spine when you saw and heard him live. Jimi Hendrix was once asked by a reporter, “what’s it like to be the best guitarist in the world?” He replied, “I don’t know, you’ll have to ask Rory Gallagher.”
