My mistake

The firts three dots ot the second bar of the B part are wrong.
The should be BGB instead of GBG.

The ‘hot spot’ on of the forge ~ some alternate hammerings:

alternates ~

part B, bar 1 (^c):

alternates ~
part A, the lead in can start:

part B, bar 1 (=f):

The melody, especially the “A” part, is similar to the song “Rose of Aranmore” recorded by Beginish on their CD of the same name. The song makes a lovely air on flute or whistle.

“The Meenotogues Lad” ~ one not in the cannon of common…

I was actually playing this over the week of my lurgy, and realized no version of it was here. Then I saw this ~

Discussion: Common slides + sources

And I wasn’t sure what I could offer, other than another slide, if one that doesn’t fit the ‘norm’ of that particular discussion, a request for well worn slides in sets, and their origins…

“The Meenotogues Lad” ~ another source for this, if different

"Johnny O’Leary of Sliabh Luachra:
Dance Music from the Cork-Kerry Border"
edited by Terry Moylan
The Lilliput Press, Dublin, 1994
ISBN: 1-874675-42-2

Pages 14 & 15, tune #24: “The Meenotogues Lad”

I would have most likely picked this up from Johnny O’Leary, or someone else in the area, so can’t account for the differences I have in it as compared to the Terry Moylan transcription. I’d love to know if others have a similar version, and to see them, as there were other ways I was also remembering and finding. Here is an approximation of the longer transcription found in the book, basically AABB, without a first and second ending ~

Sounds a bit like that other slide: Popeye the Sailorman!

How to put everybody off this tune:
part 2, bar4: The Archers!
(longest running BBC radio soap!)
the rest isn’t so bad, perhaps, with a hint of ‘Far from Home’ and the Popeye jingle here and there.
