Katie’s Donkey (jig)

Source. Mike & Mary Rafferty - "Road from Ballinakill"
Transcription: g.m.p.

John Byrne’s

Think this is a ‘Donegal’ tune. This is the version I got but there is a very similar tune called Father Fielding’s Favourite in O’Neill’s. Doesn’t appear to be here though, which is strange as I would have thought that the entire O’Neill’s collection was here?

Yes It`s Father Fieldings Favourite o.k. James or his source probably learned it from the 1949 recording on `78 made by Sean McGuire which enjoyed wide popularity .Sean recorded it after another jig from O`Neills-`The Four Courts`and The Malachy Sweeney ceili band also played them together.

This tune is actually ‘Father Fielding’s Favorite’, also listed here as tune #4884 and appearing in O’Neill’s (both 1850 and 1001).

Father Fielding’s Favourite, X:3

This is the version as taught by Sorcha Costello at the Feakle Fiddle Festival August 2017. A fabulous player, incredibly patient teacher and a wonderful person. If you ever get chance to hear her live, go! She’s brilliant.
