Youghal Quay

Just in case anyone was wondering…this town in Ireland is pronounced "yawl", is located in Co. Cork, and Sir Walter Raliegh was once its mayor.

This is a Paddy O’Brien composition, recorded by him with Seamus Connolly on their "Banks of the Shannon" EP. It is not the same tune as "Miss Johnson’s/Johnston’s/Johnstone’s."

This reel was a favorite of the late fiddler Johnny Cronin, who played it in virtually every session in the later years of his too-short life.

…In hop jig time, I should say, not mazurka.

This setting transcribed from a video by Patrick Orceau, Laura Byrne and Josh Dukes. It’s such a quirky, lively tune. The ornaments are just an attempt to catch the ones that seemed necessary.
