I had this tune going round in my head the other day and sat down and played through the A-part in the key of A but couldn’t remember how the rest of it went. I tracked it down on a tune database and realised I’d probably picked it up from Dervish’s “Boys Of Sligo” and that it’s in the key of G. The setting transcribed here is based on the flute part on that album.
Sounds a bit like Humpty Dumpty to me.
Ha ha .. damn you! this tune will never be the same for me again!
This tune is listed as being in G major, but the only Cs in it are C#s. So that makes it a tune in lydian mode! I point this out only because it’s the first tune I’ve seen here (or anywhere, though I’m not experienced enough for that to count for much) in that mode. And I see that lydian isn’t a mode in the “search for tunes in keys of” list, so this looks like quite a rare bird. Neat!
