As The Sun Was Setting

Composed by John Kirkpatrick.

Nice tune!

This seems to work as a bridge between Tom Anderson’s, Resting Chair and Unfinished Journey …

Very nice if moody set. Send more, David!

"Just as the Sun was Setting" ~ medicine for this very strange transcription here in 6/8

While ‘John Kirkpatrick is listed in several places as the "S:", meaning ‘SOURCE’! ~ I’ve not found anywhere that claims it as his ‘composition’. It does exist here, predating John, unless he’s much older than I ken…

"As the Sun was Setting’ (slow air / lament?)

from "The Kilted Fiddler: A collection of 167 Scottish fiddle tunes"
Compiled and arranged by Alan Lerwick
Centerstream Publications
ISBN: 1574240293

~ including: Reels and Scotch Measures, Strathspeys, Jigs, Hornpipes, Waltzes, Descriptive Tunes, Marches, Slow Airs and Laments, and more. Includes historical notes, playing tips, and photos.

Here is a decent transcription, the ‘source’ being John Kirkpatrick, from Eric Foxley’s Music Database:

Sadly this is not a book I have my hands on or I’d check the tune and the ‘historical notes’ for it… I think it was first published in the 80’s…

There’s not a lot of difference between the two…

Jump at the sun

His latest (eponymous) tunebook has this waltz included, so he considers it his own??
I think that is believable from the semitone bass runs that can be fitted to the tune, which only an accordionist would think of.
