Six comments

Did Maire O’Keefe write this lovely tune or is it just that someone learnt it from her?
Cheers

I think she did

Another version

I heard a version of this in Milltown some years ago - taped a boxplayer playing it, unfortunately no name on tune or player.

It was in C, and I have the ABC for it - will submit it under same name later for comparison.

Never heard anyone play it since then mind you - tried it a few times myself but never got a response, has filtered down into the far reaches of my memory now! Maybe I’ll dig it out again for this weekend!

I heard the tune on one of Cherish the Ladies’ albums. They say it was composed by Jerry Holland.

C Major Version

Here’s the C major version of the tune which is substantially different.

This is a good resource, but for some reason the owner wouldn’t let me post this as a separate tune - why I don’t know as one part is totally different - so you’ll have to decode the ABC for yerselves.

Re: Máire O’ Keefe’s

Per Traditional Tune Archive and Paul Cranford, this tune was written for Máire O’Keefe by Cape Breton luthier, fiddler and composer Otis Tomas. Jerry Holland popularized the tune.
