Josephine Keegan, in her 2004 tunebook "A Drop in the Ocean", calls this jig ‘The Man in the Moon’. Alan Ng, at https://www.irishtune.info/tune/4735/ , also has it as ‘The Rising Sun’. Take your pick.
Re: The Setting Sun
Composed by Liz Carroll?
@Connor Hickey
I don’t think so though I have not the book of Liz’ compositions. While listening to her eponymous album, she plays a strathpey that does not sound to my ears as a transposition in that rythm of the present jig.
To add to the confusion, the name Setting Sun is used by Fintan Vallelly on his "Back to the Starry Lane" album, which is the remastering of the original edition called "The Starry Lane to Monaghan". The liner notes attribute to the hornpipe The Chinese the alternate name of The setting Sun. And it is said (ie The Chinese) it is a composition by Liz…
Re: The Setting Sun
I just corrected the link to the right tune in Liz Carroll album so that it leads to The Chinese hornpipe and not the present one.
