Gan Ainm Jig

This is another “ Name that Tune ” Quiz. I hope someone out there can help.

Firefly

The Wooden Flute tune database and JC’s tunefinder both list this as the Firefly Jig and gives Bulmer and Sharpley’s “Music from Ireland 3” as the source of the tune (there as gan ainm). I don’t know where the name comes from.

The Firefly

Thanks, once again, Will. I hate giving Gan Ainm’s to classes.

Well, some poeple aren’t bothered at all by not knowing the names of tunes. But I’m a wordsmith by trade, so gan ainms are the sort of thing that keeps me up at night. Of course, there are lots of nameless orphans out there--some tunes just don’t let names stick to them.
