This is the first ITM tune I’ve penned. I think it was about 1988 because I wrote it about the same time we started Tipsy House. As with just about every tune I’ve penned, a tune I heard and liked was in my sub-conscious and only wee bits could come to the surface. I always mistake this for an original tune that I’m making up, but later I find out what the tune actually was. See if you can guess, it’s in this database, but don’t cheat by doing a search. I usually scrap the tune I made up when I find the tune that was trying to come out, but sometimes they’re just different enough to keep. This tune has actually entered the local lexicon of session tunes to a certain degree here in SF.
Not Out On The Ocean
Well it doesn’t sound like Out On The Ocean. Is it Maud Millar - the Dmix one?
Oops sorry, “Sporting Molly” if you prefer…
Bingo
Gee… that was too easy huh.
It’s still a lot different though. And the B-part isn’t like anything else that I’ve met before. It goes all lydian for a while because it goes from C to D and then back to C instead of staying on the D like (say) “Bunker Hill” does in its 2nd part - very unusual.
Who’s Lydia, and how’d she get in my tune?
I have never had sexual relations with Lydia Lewinsky. I’ve never had an affair with her.
She’d have more sense than to go anywhere near an anglo player I suppose.
The Golden Monocle
I changed the name back to what it originally was. I have a new tune I will call “The Looking Glass,” but I won’t post it here until I’ve posted a few trad tunes.
