Cap and Bells

“Cap and Bells” is the original title written by Josephine Keegan. Ths is from her tunebook “The Keegan Tunes” published 2002.

Aka. Out on the Road

Good tune, GIAN!!! I was just thinking about requesting it. It’s also on Kevin Crawford’s “In Good Company” and Dervish’s “Midsummer’s Night.”

Cap and Bells

It’s always interesting to see how tunes change as they pass around from player to player. Just for the sake of comparison here’s how Josephine Keegan wrote this tune originally:

How zen, I just learned this tune last week, it must be flying around in the ether. After it I play the Lomanach Cross ~G3A B2BA|GBdB c2 … which was a set of Conor Tully’s I believe.

Another Cap & Bell recording

I’ve just gotten “Sets in the City” by Jack Gilder, Kevin Bernhagen and Richard Mandel as Tipsy House, and there’s a very nice
version on there. The rest of the cd is great fun, too.

Thanks, Steve, we got that from the famous Gort session tape where it showed up with The Maid on the Green. We added the third tune, but the Smoky Chimny boys added a different third tune at the end. I’m thinking the first two must be one of those standard pairings of tunes.

Re: Cap And Bells

Original? From Keegan herself? Transcribed from somewhere? I trust you Dow, I’m just curious.

Re: Cap And Bells

Why does Dervish call it Out on the Road? Anybody know?? Thanks

Another “haute-couture” gem from the great Co Armagh fashion designer and train setter: how does she do it?!
