A beautiful reel, composed by Paddy O’Brien, from his recording with James Kelly and Daithi Sproule.
One of my favorites
Good one Kenny!
Antrim Rose
I had the pleasure of sitting next to the namesake for this tune at a session in Dublin last Sunday night. She’s a lovely fiddler from Antrim that Paddy named the tune for.
The Antrim Rose
….will be playing at The Mull Of Kintyre Festival this week-end, in the company of our very own "Ptarmigan". Can’t make it there myself this year, but if you come across a good going Irish session in Campbeltown in the next 72 hours , you’ll have found them.
I heard this tune played by Matt Molloy on a Bothy Band recording but the parts were played once through.
Here’s how he he played it:
T:Antrim Rose
M: 4/4
L: 1/8
R: reel
K: Dmaj

Sorry, last two notes in 8th bar are high, not low.
Don’t think so….
Which Bothy Band recording would that be then ?
Don’t know, might have been recorded off the radio.
Re: The Antrim Rose
Is this really in Dmaj ? Resolves on an A, and just sounds different. Educate me please.
Re: The Antrim Rose
Boxdad, the first part is in D and the second part is in A, though Em could be another option for the second part.
I played The Antrim Rose in my sunny North Antrim garden yesterday afternoon, along with another ‘Co. Antrim’ tune, Leslie Craig’s - The Road to Ballymac, on my Hammered Dulcimer. .. The things we do during self-isolation. 😉
