Gerry O’Connor’s version

On his Journeyman cd, fiddler Gerry O’Connor calls this McGann’s after Andy McGann. Gerry says he got the tune from a private tape of McGann’s playing.

Transcribed from Gerry O’Connor’s playing, it goes like this:

There’s no small resemblance to the Otter’s Holt, especially in the A part.

The Old Dudeen

My submission belongs here in the comments. Go here for an mp3 and some more info about early recordings http://www.cranfordpub.com/tunes/Irish/OldDudeen.htm. I think the Tailor’s Thimble title might be a mistake, and there’s another reel that goes by that name anyway.

It sounds so D major…

It sounds so B minor…

Composed by John McGrath.

Paddy Killoran recorded this during the fifties and I have always thought it could well have been the inspiration for the Otter’s Holt, many local musicians including Junior Crehan met and played with Killoran on his 1958 and 1960 visits to Miltown Malbay.

I confirm, it’s a Bm tune.

Nice tune anyway, my students will suffer next year !
