The High King Reel

This tune was composed by Sean Quinn, accordionist of Newcastle, Co. Down, Ireland around 1963 in reference to the Ard Rí (High King) Ceil Band in which he was then a member. The band subsequently broadcast the tune on the Radio Eireann ceili house programme and it was picked up by a number of musicians, particularly in the North of Ireland. Sean has since composed over 50 jigs reels and hornpipes.

Hmmmm, talking about yourself in the 3rd person is a bit odd…

Consider adding more of you compositions in your ‘details’ ~

A Polite Reminder…

Tunes in the Details ~ member’s compositions

You can also add live links to your ‘details’ for your recordings and any online presence. You’ll to add the full address, starting with the http://

It’s a nice little reel and I’ve enjoyed playing it, especially the B-part…

Re: The High King

Thanks for all the comments. I will use the first person from now on 🙂. Have updated my details a bit and will do more, taking your advice, and put tune links in there instead. It’s a problem for composers, getting the tunes "out there". I have some stuff on SoundCloud already, so maybe that’s the place to go.
In the meantime have a look at Sean Quinn’s reel, just posted here. I see from the Help pages that Jeremy doesn’t really want members posting "own tunes", so will try to abide by that in future. Great site though.

Re: The High King

Consider adding more of your compositions!? It’s just about trying to set a balance between the self-composed and versions you know of old standards or the compositions of others, something like 1 own to 3 others… I enjoy trying out the inspiration of others. Some offer ABCs of their compositions in their details, having found and sampled many there and sometimes, after spending some time giving someone’s comp some air I’ve moved them to their own page under ‘TUNES’ here…
