Farewell To The Dene

Well if this isn’t my favourite hornpipe, it’s definitely in my top 3 - I love it! It’s by Willy Taylor, who wrote some great tunes. If you like this one, check out the following:

This hornpipe might seem a bit unusual because of the high frequency of strathspey-like light-heavy pairs, which give it a special lilt a bit like a highland/fling. I’ve notated these exactly as they were played by the man himself; any other pairs should be heavy-light by default.

Schottische - German - Barndance ~

As I used to know this, play it, and dance to it. As yet my memory cells aren’t telling me where I got it, but I have known and played a number of Willy Taylor’s fine tunes…lovely stuff…a melody full of smiles…

Right ‘c’ - I can see immediately when I’m told… still getting the hang of this barndance/fling/hornpipe thing but I’m getting there!

Wow, it just spontaneously resubmitted itself!

Great tune

Angels of the North use this for the Canadian barndance.
Great tune. I would suggest that the tune is a schotische rather than a hornpipe, at least in the Northumbrian sense of the words.
