Felini’s Boat Song?
I just learned this off Kim McKee, who plays it on accordion but can’t remember where she heard it. Says it’s been stuck in her head for quite some time, and she has a vague recollection that it’s called Felini’s Boat Song. Lol. Maybe it’s one of Gian Marco’s tunes. :o)
Anyway, I really like this simple little melody, and it works nice at a slow tempo as well as at more customary slide speed. Fits well on fiddle and whistle/flute.
Anyone recognize it and have a more likely name for it?
Lanigan’s?
Lots of similarities to the jig/song ‘Lanigan’s Ball’
Baidin Fheilemi
it’s a speeded up version of an irish kid’s song

Thanks Alan! Kim remembered that it went with a song, but the details were foggy.
Baidin Fheilemi
That’s not (only) a kid ‘s song. It’s a sean-nos song with some mystic in it - a fisherman rowing between this world and the otherworld…
Lyrics
That’s the version as sung by the famous sean nos singer Sinead O’Connor ;-)
Baidin Fheilimi, d’imigh go Gabhla,
Baidin Fheilimi ’ s Feilimi ann,
Baidin Fheilimi D ’ imigh go Gabhla
Baidin Fheilimi ‘s, Feilimi ann.
Baidin bideach, baidin beosach, Baidin boidheach,
baidin Fheilimi,Baidin direach, baidin deontach,
Baidin Fheilimi ‘s Feilimi ann.
Baidin Fheilimi d ’ imigh go Trocaigh,
Baidin Fheilimi ‘s Feilime ann.
Baidin Fheilimi d ’ imigh go Trocaigh,
Baidin Fheilimi ‘s Feilime ann.
Baidin bideach, baidin beosach, Baidin boidheach,
baidin Fheilimi,Baidin direach, baidin deontach,
Baidin Fheilimi ‘s Feilimi ann.
Baidin Fheilimi briseadh i dToraigh,
Baidin Fheilimi ’ s Feilimi ann.
Baidin Fheilimi briseadh i dToraigh,
Baidin Fheilimi ’ s Feilimi ann.
Baidin bideach, baidin beosach, Baidin boidheach,
baidin Fheilimi,Baidin direach, baidin deontach,
Baidin Fheilimi ‘s Feilimi ann.
Baidin bideach, baidin beosach, Baidin boidheach,
baidin Fheilimi,Baidin direach, baidin deontach,
Baidin Fheilimi ‘s Feilimi ann.
So is Baidin Fheilimi just a person’s name?
Baidin = little boat
Fheilimi = Feilim’s
Feilim was the name of the guy in the little boat.
Some of the kids around here got fed up with playing this tune ad nauseam and re-christened it Bodgy Dodgy, after which it never felt the same again. For me the words of the song are just a little too boring to have any mysticism.
But basically not a bad little tune.
Thanks for the translation!
Different Lyrics?
Why do the lyrics on "Celtic Pride" sound so different than these?

next year on Tory!
Sinead O’Connor
Sinead O’Connor sings this song slow and beautiful in her album Sean-Nos Nua
He was an Ulster chieftain who tried to escape his enemies even though his boat was far from seaworthy for the Donegal seas. He first went to Gabhla but thought Toraigh a more secure hiding place. He never made it there, his boat broke against the high cliffs of Tory. He probably wasn’t the first or last to try to escape and never make to safety
