Thanks Alex. I thought that since it was a duplicate it might get wiped so I stored it in my profile and then cut & pasted it!

Jacks is yet Alive/ Jacks Alive

Thanks Dow..The HLR play Chips and Shavens, Jack’s Alive and Dear Tobacco. Its a favourite set of mine as it was the first set I played publically in a session (and still do! )I some times follow Jack’s alive with Abraham Mackintosh’s jig version…K.G. 6/8 1/8

Jacks Alive

Great tune off the Album “Our Dear Dark Mountain” and the notes in the sleeve say it is a Monaghan tune

Re: Jacks Alive

Agreed DonaldK but ?different enough to have its own listing that links to the recording

Re: Jack Is Yet Alive

Tom Anderson learned this tune from his grandfather and is supposed to date from the days of the press gang, according to the sleeve notes on The Silver Bow.

Re: Jack Is Yet Alive

“Jack’s Alive” is in the Grier manuscripts which were compiled around the 1880s (and that setting is in Ceol Rince na h’Eireann Vol.4), and in a slightly different setting in Ryan’s Mammoth Collection of 1883.

As a jig it’s also in Ryan’s under the title “Dusty Bob” and in the Vickers MS as “Jack’s Alive” (Matt Seattle in his exhaustive notes to the Great Northern Tunebook cites several settings from the 18th century on).
