"Highway to Kilkenny"

Ah, dear Kilkenny, I’d love to be on my way there right now… This lovely little slip jig is related to some others, but my brain isn’t working well right now. Also, it just seemed sad that this has been here without some comment, so now it has my fried musings… What are the relatives? 😏

"The Rakes of Kilkenny"

Can’t say that I’ve ever been to Kilkenny, but came across this relative:

A version very similar to X: 1 appears in The Petrie Collection of Irish Music, part II, ed. Charles Villiers Stanford (1905), p. 139, no. 549 as “The high road to Kilkenny”.

Re: Highway To Kilkenny

Sorry for being trifling and possibly pedantic here, but I tried playing it a few times and something was wrong. I don,t know anything about music, but I do know when it doesn,t sound right. Take the first setting of the tune, in the end of the second part, right after it displays the number "2". The next 3 note triplet should be an F sharp, going up to an A, and then another F sharp, then the next triplet should be a long G dropping to an E, then exactly as shown on the transcript 🙂 Otherwise a brilliant tune, my favourite being James Kelly, Paddy o,Brien, and Daithi Sproule,s version.

Highway To Kilkenny, X:4

As played by Les Musiciens de Saint-Julien. Transposed to G from F#.
