Great slow air, daithic, and a Matt Molloy classic. Unfortunately someone has given this title to a polka[!], and the link from the Molloy recording takes you to there instead of here. It should be changed, methinks.
Hrmm… too many 32nd notes!! ::head falls over in confusion::
Lament for staker wallace
Does anyone Know What form you are supposed to play this tune, every one plays for different amounts.P.S if anyone has cool varaitions for the tune please share them with, and include the place that the varation fits in.Sound.
Hi, I was wondering would anyone have any information about this slow air. I really love it and I’m going to play it for my junior cert practical. We have to do research on the tunes we are playing. I have looked everywhere but I can’t find much info on this slow air. If anyone knows about who wrote it or when it was written that would be a big help. I know that it was written about ‘Staker Wallace’ who was executed for his role in the 1798 rebellion and the earliest recording of this tune was in 1903 🙂
Re: Lament For Staker Wallace
The sleeve notes for Leo Rowsome’s 1959 album ‘The King of the Pipers’ only say “An old lament commemorating a famous Limerick patriot. His name derived from the fact that he defended a breach in the Walls of the City with a stake”.
