The Skye Boat Song, X:6

Our singer sings this in the key of "D" and follow with "Huntington Castle".

Re: The Skye Boat Song

@Eve Eyles I was wondering if this was the theme from Outlander! Thanks :)

For anyone else here’s what I know of the lyrics (Outlander version):
Sing me a song of a lass that is gone
Say could that lass be I
Merry of soul she sailed on a day
Over the sea to Skye

Billow and breeze, islands and seas
Mountains of rain and sun
All that was good, all that was fiar,
All that was me is gone.

If anyone has the French version from Season 2, I’d much appreciate you sending it on!

Re: The Skye Boat Song

*I think there’s a mistake in the words:

Should be "highlands and seas", and not "islands and seas"

Re: The Skye Boat Song

Here are the Lyrics to the original Scottish Air:

Speed, bonnie boat, like a bird on the wing,
Onward! the sailors cry;
Carry the lad that’s born to be King
Over the sea to Skye.

Loud the winds howl, loud the waves roar,
Thunderclaps rend the air;
Baffled, our foes stand by the shore,
Follow they will not dare.

Speed, bonnie boat, like a bird on the wing,
Onward! the sailors cry;
Carry the lad that’s born to be King
Over the sea to Skye.

Though the waves leap, soft shall ye sleep,
Ocean’s a royal bed.
Rocked in the deep, Flora will keep
Watch by your weary head.

Speed, bonnie boat, like a bird on the wing,
Onward! the sailors cry;
Carry the lad that’s born to be King
Over the sea to Skye.

Many’s the lad fought on that day,
Well the claymore could wield,
When the night came, silently lay
Dead on Culloden’s field.

Speed, bonnie boat, like a bird on the wing,
Onward! the sailors cry;
Carry the lad that’s born to be King
Over the sea to Skye.

Burned are their homes, exile and death
Scatter the loyal men;
Yet ere the sword cool in the sheath
Charlie will come again.

The tune in C is a good choice for bagpipes and singing….
