The Cornhill

Oisin MacDiarmada taught this at the Willie Clancy School in 1998. He was 20 at the time and is an amazing player. He got the tune from Leitrim’s Hidden Treasure, a CD by the McNamara Family. It’s the third tune on the first cut. Oisin’s version is slightly different sounding than the CD. He has the nice DMix for the first two bars, which are not repeated, and then jumps to the D major for the third part until the last two measures, which resolve to the DMix again.

A great reel very much associated with Leitrim. The late P J Fitzpatrick (Drumshanbo, I think) was noted for playing this reel although I originally found the tune in the Breathnach No. 2 collection.
