This simple little tune comes from Mayo flute player Paul Smyth’s recording. According to the notes, it appeared in the Feis Musicians’ Handbook compiled by Tom Hastings. Please add some info if you know the real title of the tune.
Re: Tom’s
Neat little tune. Uilleann piper Michael Cooney performed it on the low whistle at his concert at Glucksman Ireland House in NYC in 2005, the only time I heard anyone play it. I think it works quite well in the key of G.
Re: Tom’s
I wonder why the transcription here is in “Edor.” Sounds straight D maj to my ear.
After playing this a bit in G, I tinkered with a few phrases. I hope Tom doesn’t mind. Nice tune no matter how you play it.
Some other possibilities, filling in for a more flowing line. (I like playing it once or twice through with all the crotchets, and then again with quavers.)
X: 1
T: Tom’s Slip
M: 9/8
L: 1/8
K: G
