The Woods Of Old Limerick

I associate this fine jig with the playing of Declan Masterson, who recorded it with โ€œPatrick Streetโ€.
It is sometimes played in the key of โ€œDโ€.

The Woods of Old Limerick

Thanks for posting this interesting jig. I first heard it at a session played by the Mulcahy sisters of Co. Limerick. It’s now one of my favourite tunes and lends itself well to the concertina.

Whistle teachers take note, this looks like a good tune for students who need work on their high c.

A nice version of this tune is found on track 9 of Liam Bradley’s cd "100% Pure Irish Dance - The Show"

Some minor changes made to the transcription which had the lead-ins so:

G |: ~ | GFE G3 :|
fg |: ~ | GFE G3 :|

The F version is nice…

Does it get played in that key with any frequency?

I heard it played in F at Shortt’s in Feakle a couple of weeks ago (Seamus Bugler & Ged Foley).

Name of the second tune?

On the Bradley Brothers CD, they play Woods of Old Limerick with another lovely tune, but don’t name the other tune on the CD. Does anyone know what it’s called?

Some E flats

I’ve marked four E flats where I sometimes like to play them on the Tedrick/ceolachan version.

No surprise, I like that… ๐Ÿ˜‰

Really?

I thought you were too sharp to like flats… ๐Ÿ™‚

Do you suppose I should have called them E-punctures?

Re: The Woods Of Old Limerick

We have been playing it in G, so going low for 2nd and 3rd notes in measure 4 is the open G string for a really nice ring.
