This is how it’s played in our sessions as introduced by fiddler Gery McCann. He plays it in a set: Dancing Eyes/Little House Around the Corner (this jig)/Nova Scotia/. I introduced this set to another sesion I attend away from Manchester…nice set.
Oh, and he starts Nova Scotia with the anacrusis (the pick-up notes), emphasising and holding the first B for a fraction which gives a nice halt and lift to the rhythm - and catches out many an unsuspecting, visiting guitarist *hee hee*
This tune is called “The Little Thatched Cabin” on Rose Flanagan and Laura Byrne’s “Forget Me Not,” and “The Old Thatched Cabin” on Jayne Pomplas’s “Traditional Irish Music on Fiddle,” on the liner notes of which Jayne says it was recorded by Paddy Reynolds and Charlie Mulvihill, and that she learned it from Tony DeMarco.
