Seamus Cooley’s

You’ll find this in a set with the Hole in the Hedge on Martin Hayes’s cd Under the Moon. Nice easy jigs, well-suited for beginners but fun for anyone to play. Also a good lesson in not over ornamenting a melody….

Joe Cooley’s Delight

This one follows the Morning Lark as played by Noel Hill and Tony McMahon. At our session we always add on Tom Billy’s at the end which makes for a nice threesome.

Aka Cooley’s

Great tune. I learned this from Noel Hill as Cooley’s jig. Noel and Tony Linnane finish off their live album with this one, and a rousing one it is, too!

Re: Joe Cooley’s Delight

Move this down to G and it seems to be the same tune as the Seamus Cooley’s that Martin Hayes plays on Under the Moon.

Cooleys reel

this tune in the blue cd is a reel played with drowsey maggie, however here it is a jig is there a mistake some where…

This is Joe Cooley’s Delight, or the Bohola jig, in G instead of D. Huh!

Don’t blame Will but Martin Hayes: he often records many tunes in weird keys.

Not a mistake

No, it is not a mistake. Cooley’s Reel (super-common Em tune) is a DIFFERENT TUNE than Cooley’s Jig (slightly less-common D tune).

Compare with the Angry Peeler / Flowers Of The Burren.

seamus cooley’s

anyone play a set with seamus cooley’s jig in there?

i’d love some suggestions.

thanks.

Re: seamus cooley’s

Tulla Ceili Band used to pair this with House in the Glen, or with Hole in the Hedge and the Kerfunteun.

Also goes well with Out on the Ocean, Geese in the Bog, or Joe Derrane’s.

Re: seamus cooley’s

We play it with Hole In The Hedge as well.

Re: seamus cooley’s

Noel Hill and Tony Linnane play it after the Morning Lark which makes for a nice pair.

Sets with cooleys jig

Anybody have any suggestions for sets with joe cooleys jig in them

Was thinking of following it with the ten penny bit for a bit of a lift…..

Leg of the Duck

This seems to be known as Leg of the Duck around Carlow.

The second part of this tunes defntly makes a slide of it.

Re: The Bohola

I believe that there is a jig called the Bohola but the tune listed here is Cooleys as per Comhaltas Ceoltoiri Eireann == the organization promoting Irish trad, music in Ireland Book 1 page 31
