This reel comes from East Galway flute player Sean Moloney’s solo album “Potsticks.” It’s the middle tune in my favourite track of the recording. Eddie Moloney was Sean’s father and a renowned flute player.
There isn’t much information on the tune in the notes: it “is an old and rare tune which I got from Eddie.” Eddie Moloney was a quite influential musician, so this tune is maybe on other recordings with a different name.
I have a very bad habit of learning uncommon tunes, but this one is very simple, effective and definitely worth sharing with others.
After this tune you may play Dobbin’s Flowery Vale (aka. Eddie Moloney’s Favourite): https://thesession.org/tunes/323
I accidentally found a similar tune: https://thesession.org/tunes/3199
there are several Eddie Moloney tunes and the one on Gary Shannon’s album is quite different from this one
The link from that CD (Croch Suas E) is wrong. The tune can be found here: https://thesession.org/tunes/1771
AKA “The Birmingham.” AKA Eddie Moloney’s #1. It would be helpful if the title could be changed on the CD comments section but I guess that’s too much to ask for.
