This is posted as being the tune "The Beehive" from Rubai by Flook but looking at it I’m really sure that it isn’t!! Not sure about Nollaig though, haven’t heard that yet……
It’s not the one on Rubai that’s for sure!Same the Sligo Reel on here says it’s the one on Flatfish but it’s not either!!
I agree as well. Try this:
||:B2 ^f2 b a2 e-|e^f AB ^cd ef |B^f bf ^c’f d’c’-|^c’d’ b^c’ d’ ^f’2 B- |
B2 ^f2 b a2 e-|e^f AB ^cd ef |b^f d’ ^c’2 d’ bd’ |^c’d’ bd’ c’b a^f :||
||:dd BA B2 ge-|ee ed ^cd e^f |dd BA B2 ge-|ed e^f a4 |
dd BA B2 ge-|ee ed ^cd ea |^ff ed e2 dB-|BB AB d B3 :||
I’ll submit formally as well.
The tune "The Beehive" on "Rubai" is by Sarah Allen of Flook. The (first) tune here is by Nollaig Casey. I’d say it was in G minor, rather than D minor (though with an F Natural, as you’d expect with an Irish tune).
Sean Smyth plays this beautifully on track 2 of the Lá Nua album by Lunasa entitled "The Raven’s Rock"
The Beehive/High Reel
The Beehive? Great tune. It’s listed as "High Reel" on Joe Burke, Michael Cooney and Terry Corcoran’s album, "Happy to Meet & Sorry to Part." They play "Geoghegan’s" after it. I have seen "The Beehive" listed as
"High Reel" somewhere else, too. Anyone else know? (The popularity of the other "High Reel" makes any search very difficult!!)
"The Beehive" reel which is occasionally known as "The High Reel / Other High Reel / Galway High Reel" is this one, not the tune posted above :
Re: The Beehive
Great rendition of this tune by The Lowground!
The Beehive, X:3
(D) Whistle friendly version of the tune. Learnt it off Lúnasa’s album (The Raven’s Rock / Lá Nua). Apologies for any possible mistakes, this is how I remember it.
