Also known in England as The New May Moon , in old tune books from 1700s

O’Neill’s version in D

X:2 is the version in O’Neill’s transposed from C to D. I think this four-part setting is particularly nice in either key. The tune is in the “Jigs” section of the book, #894.

Thomas Moore

It’s the air used by Thomas Moore for his song “The Young May Moon”.

He called the Air “The Dandy O”

Re: The Gallant Tipperary Boys

There is a nice Irish fiddle lesson by Majella Bartley on youtube using this tune as an example. Includes adding cuts and half rolls. For instance, Adding a half roll to the b in the first measure and the F# in measure two. Lesson from the Online academy of Irish music.

“We play this one before The Bank Of Turf”

I can never get into The Bank of Turf after this tune - much too similar! But a nice pair if you can pull it off.
