Ormond Sound

Since we have Johnny B. Connolly’s Bridgetown cd posted in the Recordings archive, it seemed fitting to post a tune that’s on the cd. Ormond Sound is a Paddy O’Brien composition, an accordion and fiddle player from County Tipperary. He led the Ormond Ceili Band and wrote many of the tunes they played.

Aka Saving the Hay

On his cd, The Dangerous Reel, Mike Rafferty calls this Saving the Hay and credits Paddy O’Brien as the composer. No word on where the Hay title comes from.

Re: Ormond Sound

I’ve always been curious about the origin of the title, does it refer to music or a body of water?

Re: Ormond Sound

See the original quote by the OP - your answer is there :
“He led the Ormond Ceili Band and wrote many of the tunes they played”.

Re: Ormond Sound

I read the original comment. My question still stands. Ormond is a place? It’s possible the place has a body of water? A sound, perhaps?

Clearly you seem to know that it refers to the sound of the Ceili Band. So thanks for clarifying.
