Buntata ’s Sgadan reel

This little reel is one of many excellent tunes from the CD ‘First Harvest’ by Iain MacDonald Iain MacFarlane.
We learnt it on Colm O’Rua’s mandolin/banjo course at Sabhal Mor Ostaig in July 2004.
It was composed by Allan MacDonald, brother of Iain. The title means ‘potatoes and herring’ (a Highland antecedant of fish and chips).
Try variations with a generous injection of triplets (banjo/mandolin)

Whats with the apostrophe in the title? “Buntata” means potato, sgadan, herring. The title is about a particular food, not someone called Buntata creating Sgadan.

The correct title, in Scots Gaelic“, is ”Buntata ’s Sgadan“ which translates into ”Potatoes and Herring“. There is a space between the last ”a“ of buntata and the ”apostrophe".
