Nine comments

Not really in G Major

From Tim Collins - Dancing on Silver

I know it isn’t in G Maj, but the tune would have to be modified to enter it as A minor. I have always regarded modes as a bit academic so don’t really think in them, but if anyone wants to suggest the correct mode it should be entered under, then I will edit it.

Key

It’s A dorian.

Most tunes that are ostensibly in A minor are actually in A dorian i.e. the F is sharp (just like G major).

It sounds a bit like a reel setting of “Scatter the Mud.”

The New Mown Meadow

Actually, it’s “The New Mown Meadow” in A. Noel Hill recorded this tune as a solo on The Iron Behind the Velvet.

Sounds alot like Brenda Stubbert’s Reel too.

Bill McKim

On the album it is in the low octave:

X: 1
T: Seán Mháire Mhicilín
M: 4/4
L: 1/8
R: reel
K: Amix
E2A,A, B,A,A,D|~E2DE FDDF|EA,~A,2 B,A,G,B,|DGED B,A,B,D|

E2AA BAFA|GBGF EDB,D|GBGE FAEF|1 DDED B,DGD:|2 DDED B,A,B,D||

And in the high octave for comparison with the original submission:

X: 1
T: Seán Mháire Mhicilín
M: 4/4
L: 1/8
R: reel
K: Amix

Seán Mháire Mhicilín, a.k.a The Silver Spear

I entered the ABCs in 2/4 a it appears in Roche but Jeremy must have changed to have it in 4/4. Perhaps aidriano had done the same.
