"The Old Court Hornpipe" ~ C: Jackie Daly

"Jackie Daly: Domhnach Is Dálach / Many’s a Wild Night"

Side 2, track 1 / track 8 ~ hornpipes: "The Clockhouse" / "The Old Court"

Two compositions of Jackie named after two of the most prominent buildings in his home town of Kanturk. The Clockhouse which has a history dating back to the 1800s was restored and renovated in recent times. The Old Court is the name given to Kanturk Castle which was built by the Lord of Dunhallow, MacDonogh MacCarthy during the reign of Queen Elizabeth I. Due to the fears of English settlers who objected to the structure as being too fortified for a Gaelic leader, MacCarthy was ordered to cease work on the castle just as the roof was about to be put on and the castle was never completed.
