Set Dance?

This one has a long B-part, just like some set dances. Is it considered to be a set dance?

I got this from Fiddler’s Companion. Looks like it is a set dance:

"YOUGHAL HARBOUR [2]. Irish, Set Dance (cut time). G Major. Standard. AAB. Related to version #1. The tune has six bars in the ‘A’ part and fourteen in the ‘B’ part. Roche Collection, 1982, Vol. 3; No. 186, pg. 65. Vallely (Learn to Play the Fiddle with Armagh Pipers Club), 197?; No. 34, pg. 32.

Set Dance

’Tis, at least according to An Coimisiun le Rinci Gaelacha.

Having it both ways

A hornpipe version of this tune is given in O’Neill (ON1850, #1633 and ON1001, #861), but it appears as a set dance in the Roche collection (book 3 #186) and in Bulmer & Sharpley (book 2, #83). Nice tune either way.

Youghal Harbour, X:3

This version is from a radio broadcast by Tara Bingham (Tara Diamond) who learned it from Cathal McConnell. It has 7 measures in the A part and 11 in the B part and is played slowly with lots of triplets, double cuts, cuts, taps and rolls. The “A” and the “D” notes on the last beat of the sixth measure are alternatives.

Re: Youghal Harbour

Thanks Cac for your transcription. I learned Youghal Harbour from same radio broadcast by Tara Diamond.

Re: Youghal Harbour

You’re welcome, Marin. My name is actually Chet and cac are my initials. I should probably change from cac, but it is very easy to type when logging in, and I’m a bit lazy.
