Hold On

A Scottish Reel.

Re: Miss Victoria Ross

Edited to give it its correct name.

Re: Miss Victoria Ross

And strathspey….

Re: Miss Victoria Ross

Does anyone know who wrote this tune or whether it’s traditional, or whether the strathspey or reel version came first?

Also, was this written for pipes or fiddle? On Ian MacInnis’ recording Tryst, it starts in D on fiddle (also to match the D smallpipes that come in later), but obviously A is the GHB key. So which is the original?

Re: Miss Victoria Ross

It’s in Ross’s Collection of Pipe Music by William Ross, published in 1885 as a strathspey in A. It’s not attributed to anyone but it’s possible, I suppose, that William Ross (1823-91), piper to Queen Victoria, composed it.
