The Kiltimagh Jig

Some would say it is an Irish version of “The Hexham Races”: https://thesession.org/tunes/1248 And closely related to “I Will If I Can”: https://thesession.org/tunes/1595 IMHO this is a bit different and nicer.

I discovered this simple jig recorded on a mini disc. The whistle player is unmistakably Christy Barry, recorded during a workshop around 18 months ago. I had no idea what it is called, but later found a slightly different version in John Williams’ self-titled solo recording. It seems named after a village in Mayo.

Hope there is no misspelling this time. I’m now more cautious.

Nice comparison, but just a little mixed up ~ and really only a difference of a key signature… While your contribution has it’s own distinct way with itself…though ‘similar’:

I Will if I Can / Kenmure’s Up and Awa’ / Hexham Races ~ K: G Major

Variation

Well, I deliberately modified the transcription to make the tune more distinct and to suit my fancy though it’s mostly based on J. Williams’ box playing.

Christy Barry actually plays the first part of the tune like this:

Nice contributions ‘slainte’…appreciated…
