Nice Tune

Howdy,

This is a jig in a set by Solas on Waiting for an Echo, which I would highly recommend. Enjoy. Btw, does anyone know the history of this tune; is it traditional or fairly new? Thanks.

History of "Steven Campbell’s"

As a pure guess, I would guess "Steven Campbell’s" is relatively new because of the way "Steven" is spelled. What I wold like to know is if the tune is Scottish?

Steven Campbell.

I haven’t seen him for a few years, but there is a very good fiddle player from Glasgow by the name of Stevie Campbell. Last I heard he was in Donegal, and I think was involved in working in music in Glencolumbkille. It may have something to do with him, but of course there may be more than 1 Steven or Stephen Campbell.

Re: Stephen Campbell’s

I’ve changed this tune’s title to ‘Stephen Campbell’s’ to reflect his actual name. Solas almost certainly got the tune from him when they were touring Europe together (Stephen in cahoots with his fellow Donegal resident the singer/guitarist Ian Smith) in the early 2000s.

Here’s a clip of Stevie, as he’s generally known, from 2001 - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7XgR0GZsORo - and that’s Hiudái Beag of the renowned session pub in Bunbeg with him.
