An old Scottish jig,composed by Neil Gow,if i’m not mistaken.
I like this one. I had recently learned it from a contra dance band in Connecticut that recorded it, The Wild Notes.
i didn’t know it was Gow. The Angels got it from the manuscript of George Sanders of Ryton which dates from the eighteenth century.
its a great tune. we play it with "The Basket of Oysters" and "behind the bush in the garding".
It’s not one of Niel Gow’s, but he did publish it. One early sighting is in Oswald’s Caledonian Pocket Companion, Vol.5 (1745).
