Quite right,but you can dance the hornpipe to it,so that makes it an honorary hornpipe.I play it in a set,after “Crossing The Minch”,which is a hornpipe,and you can’t see the join.

I meet up with Gina MacLeod, who is an excellent singer, every year at Dougie MacLean’s “Perthshire Amber” Festival. She has some information about her illustrious piping relations on her website - link below - which mentions the origins of “The Conundrum”.

Recast in 2/4 (a pedantic difference, perhaps, but I think it is meaningful and worth adhering to) and a few minor pointing differences which are I think more common.

I’d play it with even more snaps, Calum, the first part, for example, being:

But nice to see it in 2/4, in which, funnily enough, I find it easier to read.
