### The Smith’s A Gallant Fireman

Isn’t it surprising that this old familiar tune hasn’t been on this site yet? Transcribed from the fiddle playing of Jennifer Wrigley, Allan Henderson, and Jullia Legge. That’s the best version of the tune I’ve ever come across.

It’s a great tune, thanx for posting it slaite.

### Another tune

I would like to know if it´s available the Liam O´Flynn´s version .

### The Smith’s A Gallant Fireman

I picked up this tune from a workshop with Ian Fraser of Scotland. He puts in a lot of really nice "dirt", mainly double stopped unisons, rolls, and hammer-ons. He also has some really nice bowing, which makes it a lot less choppy and a bit more lyrical. I thoroughly enjoyed his playing of this tune and I’ve added it to my list of favourites!

This can also be found as a reel in O’Neill’s DMI under the title "More Luck to Us" (No.564). Another Scottish title is "Carrick’s Rant".

The version below is from the playing of Howie MacDonald. He drives the bow in this tune quite a bit. I’ve tried to notate that in the ABCs as ,e.g., D2- .D>F, which appears in standard notation with a dot below the driven note. Of course on the midi file it comes across as nothing.

Howie plays this tune at a quite lazy 116 crotchets (quarter notes) per minute which gives it a laid back feel.

### The Smith’s a Gallant Fireman

I’ve been searching for the variation of this tune as I have heard from one or two fiddlers over many years. I found the complete tune in the Scottish Violinist (tunes composed and arranged by Scott Skinner). This is a transcript of the tune as I suppose he played it.
