I Was Born For Sport jig

Another tune from O’Shaughnessy & Bradley’s duet album. It seems taken from George Petrie’s “The Petrie Collection of the Ancient Music of Ireland,” originally published in the late 19th century. It’s a very attractive jig, which would sound great on pipes.

Dermy Diamond and Paul O’Shaugnessy played this in tonight’s Cobblestones session. I asked Paul the name but couldn’t hear his answer, due to background noise. Glad to have found it hear. Great tune.

As pointed out by ‘Slainte’ this seems to be virtually the same tune as Barbara Needhams

Which comes from the Joyce collection of 1909

A very nice version of this old tune has been recorded recently by the Innisfree Ceili Band. Their inventive variations add a particularly nice touch. And it does indeed sound great on the pipes!
