I only know this title from this Youtube recording of Brian MacNamara: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jr8CxW3YER4

Re: The Piper’s Picnic

Pardon my typo, I mean “O‘Neill’s” of course, as in “The Dance Music of Ireland: O’Neill’s 1001 Double Jigs, Single Jigs, Hop or Slip Jigs, Reels, Hornpipes, Long Dances, Set Dances, Etc., Collected and selected from all available sources and edited by Capt. Francis O‘Neill (Retired Gen. Supt. of Police), arranged by Sergt. James O’Neill”.

One heck of a title.

Re: The Piper’s Picnic

And, for what it’s worth, I can’t find a single recording anywhere that does it in A major like O’Neill’s has it. They all do it as Amix, and I agree with them, it’s much better that way.

The Piper’s Picnic, X:4

This is very similar to setting #2 with a couple of small tweaks to make it more ‘pipey’ - or at least as I hear it from Brian M’s playing.

Re: The Piper’s Picnic

They don’t all do it in Amix. Brian MacNamara’s recording in the video above has natural Cs; I guess that would be A Dorian. I kind of like it that way.
