Washington’s March

A version of this tune is played by American Old-time fiddlers, some with a Ddad‘ tuning. It was recorded with this tuning as the second tune of a set of three on “Songs From the Mountain” by John Herman, Tim O’Brien & Dirk Powell. This version comes from the playing of West Virginia fiddler, Edden Hammons (nee Edwin - variants: Eddon, Eddin, Edn) who was recorded playing this tune.

Washington’s March as a breakdown

Played in the US often as an old time breakdown. This version was transcribed from Songs From the Mountain, John Hermann, Dirk Powell, Tim O’Brien. It is the 3rd tune in the Mountain Air Medley. This version is played cross tuned D,DAd. With the top string down a step the B part is a breeze. Lots of drones. Sounds like a different instrument.
