Slow Reel from Flook’s newest CD
i just got flook’s newest CD in the mail. it’s as wonderful as one would expect. this simple and flowing tune, from the pen of aiden o’rourke, is played with a lovely slow lilt. it’s played on a Bb flute with G fingers and so the tune comes out in Eb. i’ve notated in G for rest of us.
i can’t wait to start picking apart some of the more complicated tunes on this CD.
if the tune is played in Eb, the guitar chords sound lovely when played in the key of D capoed up one fret. i’m not in love with the voicings of the G chords.
When you say newest CD do you mean "Rubai"?If so please could you transribe "Beehive",that would be great.I’m a bit of a "Flook" nut n’all.
Ok just noticed it’s not Rubai you are talking about.
Has anyone worked out the first part of Souter Creek?
G Mix on the Lau record?
Just downloaded the ABC and it sounds it a bit off to my ears. I’m going from memory on what the version on the Lau album sounds like, but I think that is in G mixolydian.
I think they play it in D? I could be wrong though.
The first part…
The first part is caled "The House of Little Lights" - it’s at https://thesession.org/tunes/7184 I think.
I haven’t heard any of the other versions of this tune, but I am practically in love with the setting Flook has given it. This is a very beautiful tune
Any tunes to go in a set with this?
Does anyone have any tunes which could be good in a set with this??
Also available in D

Aye, but it’s Flooks that is the "version"
Re: Souter Creek
Added the hornpipe-y rhythm in Flook’s recording (I doubt that this is a reel!)
Other slight changes based off X:1.
