The Pleasures of Hope

I heard this on the Late Session (RTE) last week, from the playing of Liam O‘Flynn, where he followed it with ’Rick’s Rambles’, which makes a fine set - I have also put the latter tune on to the session today so hope you enjoy them - they are already firmly in my set list !

What is Danny doing playing the drums for Leeds?! *grrrrr* turncoat! 🙂

has a nicer cut than most hornpipes I like the insistant Eee’s and ddd’s…

Re: The Pleasures Of Hope

I think The Pleasures of Hope was composed by Josephine Keegan.

Re: The Pleasures Of Hope

Nah, - in O’Neill’s “1001”, published 1907, - #864.

Re: The Pleasures Of Hope

I’ll take your word for it Kenny.
It’s on one of her fiddle albums. Probably not the collection of her own compositions then.

Re: The Pleasures Of Hope

Don’t take my word for it. If you look at the top of the page, it’s listed as being in no fewer than 4 collections, printed by O’Neill [ twice - 1903 and 1907 ], Francis Roche [ 1912 ], and “Ryan’s Mammoth Collection” [ 1883 ].
Josephine Keegan was born in Dundee in 1935.
