Quite possibly the most brilliant tune ever written

🙂

Posted .

Can be played as a ‘single’.

A semi-(in)famous-celto-breton band, Gwendal, covered this tune c.30 years ago.

For Dow’s da ~ adding headers and a minor clean-up

Tony Lowe’s

I couldn’t find this tune here, although it might appear under a different name somewhere. Originally learned from a ceili band tunebook. Lovely polka.

Thanks again for finding the match 🙂

Re: The Glenside

I really like this one. I love how each part reminds me of a different tune: the first is reminiscent of an E dorian version of “The Ballydesmond Polka No. 1” ( https://thesession.org/tunes/298 ), and the second part is basically a polka version of the second part of “O’Keeffe’s Slide” ( https://thesession.org/tunes/53 ). Great tune!

The Glenside, X:10

Newfoundland variant, played as a “single”.

From the “Singles from the Battery” set, alternatively known as the “Battery Singles” set. “The Battery” is a neighbourhood within St. John’s, so presumably musicians there popularized it on the island. It appears on Graham Wells‘ album in Ador/Amix, on Kelly Russell’s & The Planks’ album, and on one of The Irish Descendants’ albums in Edor.

Re: The Glenside

Ceolachan’s B part ( version 2-4) is very similar to Tralee Gaol (https://thesession.org/tunes/1113) especially as played by Sean Gavin and Jessie Smith.
