A Scott Skinner reel.

Is‘nt the name of this actually Carnies’ Center?

No

No, it’s “Carnie’s Canter”. See :

http://www.geocities.com/hamo_2000/jss.htm

and if you think about it, there’s one very simple reason why it’s not “Carnie’s Center” and that’s because it was composed by Scott Skinner, and in Scotland we spell the word “Centre”, not “Center”.

Thanks, and apologies. My version of the tune said Center.

Odd?

,,,,,,,,,,surely the B# in bars 1,2,5,6 isn’t right - that would simply make the note a ‘c nat’ ie the same as the notes preceding and succeeding????

Carnie’s Canter

This ABC from ibiblio Fiddler’s Companion, which makes more sense

The misnaming of this tune as Carnie’s “Center” comes, I think, from Stacy Phillips’ book “Mel Bay presents Natalie MacMaster’s Cape Breton Island Fiddle”. Had to laugh when I saw it.

Carnies Canter

I play Dr Keith of Aberdeen ( a strathspey) before CC…it also has some fun accidentals and the two pair well together
