Cutting a Slide

I like this tune & glad you posted it. Fred, does the album credit one of the Cunninghams as the composer of the tune, or is it trad?

I tried playing a low B instead of low A in the 6th measure of the A part of the tune and it sounds pretty good that way.

Not positive, but I think this is one of Phil Cunningham’s compositions.

Yup, it is a Phil Cunningham tune, which I learned a long time back as “that Relativity reel” so I’m glad to finally get the name for it. Sharon Shannon plays it beautifully on the “tigh Neachtain” tape.

I posted Sharon Shannon’s version above.

Cutting A Slide

Phil Cunningham composed this reel for his fellow bandmate in Relativity Triona Ni Dhomhnaill, “who demonstrated the art of sliding in the snow (with disastrous results) late one night in Hanover Street in Edinburgh.”

Re: Cutting A Slide

Does anyone know if the “A” is pronounced like “uh” (this is a great tune) or “eh” (this is a great tune, eh?) ?

Re: Cutting A Slide

Neither.
