Em, well, one of my own compositions. Was really wanting to get it out somewhere but I almost instantly regret it. Anyway, I hope it’s not too bad. Nothing strange added. Just a simple basic tune but there’s a good bit of room for ornamentation so do what you want with it.
Don’t worry, I’m not going to bombard this place with crappy tunes. Just this once, lol!!
Nice tune, but here we have a magician who could turn any single reel into a fling.
Not necessarily any… π You have to find the fling in the reel grasshopper…
Ha Ha. Doesn’t sound very nice in my abc program though ‘c’. How and ever, if you want to play it as a fling, go right ahead. Sometimes I don’t know if your actually serious….*puts on a confused smile*
π
I did my best. I wouldn’t do a shank job on a friend’s tune. I had my limitations though, to try and remain as true to the original as I could… It is likely that the rough spots will iron out over time and if that happens to my satisfaction I shall return.
I don’t know about those ABC programs. I still haven’t found one I like enough that I’d recommend it to others, but I haven’t tried them all.
Chicken Reel
Have a look at this. https://thesession.org/tunes/4019
Interesting similarities. Sometimes tunes stay in our heads for ages and influence us. I have Chicken as an American Oldie reel.
I realise that notes are different but basic structure is very close.
Nothing really influenced the A part of this tune although I think it’s similiar to the "Doon Reel".
The B part has a few similiarities to tunes like "The Green Mountain", "Tinker’s Daughter" and "Cronin’s Reel" but I didn’t want to make a carbon copy of those tunes and besides, after bar 1, the rest of the tune attached itself immediatley.
By the way, for your interest, Drimnagh is a suburb just outside Dublin’s City Centre. It’s where I live and with famous musicians like sean Keane and Sean Potts hailing from this area, I think it deserves a tune of it own. π
Ah, Drimnagh, how I think on thee at times… Hey PaddyC, I used to walk from Rathmines to Drimnagh for one of my regulars ~ and back again. Sometimes I’d take the bus… π
Reminds me most of The Humours of Ballyconnell.
Well, I wasn’t influenced by tunes, I’ll honestly tell ya.
By the way ‘c’, that bus was probably the 18 π
I just remember how smoky the buses were… That wasn’t why I walked though. The budget was tight, but that wasn’t why either. I just liked to walk ~ and lilt to myself as I went my merry way… I was much healthier then than now… π
I see. Must have been before my time I’m guessing.
If you want a set with a little play on words: play with the Humours of Drinagh https://thesession.org/tunes/5104
I know its a jig not a reel
Drimnagh/Drinagh
The tune recorded by Martin McCormack under this name is actually the jig on this site under the title "The Humours Of Drinagh".
