This tune sounds alittle more "bluegrassy" or "Americana" than trad. Irish, but it’s on Leahy’s album and played very well.
It works as a reel and is quite fun to play…
Don Messer was a very popular Canadian fiddler from the Maritimes. My guess (don’t know this tune) is it is from one of the Canadian fiddling traditions.
I guess that does make sense, Leahy is a Cape Breton band….
Leahy is from Ontario, a long way from Cape Breton.
OK, but they play Cape Breton music….
Well, truth be told, the family has Cape Breton heritage. :)
Don Messer’s Breakdown, X:2
As played by Canadian champion fiddler, Shane Cook. Swung, of course.
