transcribed by Bill Reeder from the playing of Liam O’Flynn
This is listed as a reel, but would it not be a song tune (air)?
Anybody knows who wrote that tune? Traditional, or is it Liam O’Flynn’s composition?
I learned it as a slow air from Siobhan Ni Chonarain. As I recall she talked about it as one of the romantic post Jacobite songs, in which Eire is often portrayed metaphorically as a lost love etc. Not sure if my memory serves me rightly.
from the CD booklet:
Éire is one of the great aisling songs from the Ring in the Waterford Déise …(Liam) first heard it sung by Áine Uí Cheallaigh.
No composer / songwriter is mentioned.
